Celebration at Aunt and Uncle's house

On Sunday, we went to Aunt Roselyn and Uncle Dennis's house to celebrate their retirements, my birthday, aunt's birthday and summer.  Lukey and Anna made friends with a little neighbor kitten that was really friendly.  We had fun sitting outside and celebrating!

A cheers to retirement!  Everyone was a little spread out so I didn't get everyone in the picture but we all did a champagne toast. (except Lukey and Anna-they didn't want any).

Anna ate about 4 of these popsicles.  Stinker dinker.

Chicawwgo

We celebrated my birthday by going to Chicago for a night. It was going to be two nights, but we thought it was going to be too rainy to go on Thursday.  Turns out, it wasn't actually rainy on Thursday and was rainy on Friday, the day we drove in.  (Oh that Chuck Gaidica..) It didn't really matter though because on Friday we went to the outlets in Michigan City on the way in (it wasn't rainy yet), then went to the Museum of Science and Industry, then out to dinner at Geno's.  Then we went back to the hotel for a swim.  So, we did indoor stuff anyways.  It was a lot of fun!
Lukey and Da and the tornado machine.  Lukey is really into weather lately.  Especially storms.  So he was very happy to spend time in the weather/storm area of the museum.  There was a tornado, lightning thing, a tsunami creator, etc.  It was actually really cool.  It was a great museum to take them to.  For the rest of the day/evening he kept asking about what cities have storms, what kind of storms, what's a tsunami? etc. etc.  I tried to answer his questions as best I could but told him we'd make a trip to the library when we got back to get a whole bunch of books about weather.
Anna liked the weather area too, except she didn't like the tornado a lot.  Her favorite section of the museum was the airplanes.  This also seemed to disturb her and make her sad that there were airplanes in the museum because that meant that they weren't flying anymore.  She has asked about a hundred times since we went there "Why aren't the airplanes flying? Why are they resting now?" Sometimes when she asks this she looks like she's about to cry but she insists that she really liked that part.  She was a little disappointed that I didn't get a picture of the airplanes.
The both liked the hurricane machine.
I hadn't been to this museum for about 20 years and was surprised at how huge it was.  It was very cool.  We got in free too with our membership to the Hands On Museum.  It was a perfect way to spend a rainy day.

There was also a section that was for kids that was a little like the Hands On Museum with balls and water and stuff for the kids to play with.

We stayed at the Swissotel.  It was picked for us through Priceline.  It was very nice and we had a cool view of the river.  The other side of the hotel would have had a view of Navy Pier, which would have been a better view, but this was fine.  The kids liked watching the boats.
Lukey lined his bots up along the edge of the window so they could watch the boats too.
We walked to Geno's East for dinner where the kids could draw on the walls, seats, or wherever else they could find room to draw.  The kids were in great moods for the walk both ways even though it was a little rainy.

Anna drew this picture of a girl wearing a cat dress.
Lukey had a great time at the restaurant and really liked the pizza.
After we got back we went for a swim in the pool and hot tub then the kids settled into their bed with a snack of fruit and goldfish.  They just laid there looking like they were living the life.
Our hotel was close to Millennium and Grant Park.  We usually don't go out there but thought we'd take a morning walk there on Saturday.  The weather was really nice this day.  The kids liked the bean. (they're in the middle of the picture holding the bean up)

After checking out the bean, we just continued our walk to wherever the day would take us.  It ended up taking us to the best kid park we have ever seen!  It was called the Maggie Daley park.  It's new this year and was amazing!

Lukey was very good about helping Anna through this lighthouse slide.
That's Anna climbing up the wall area by the grass. There were all kinds of rock climbing and elevation changes, etc. at this park.  It is just really cool.

There was also group yoga and aerobics in the Millennium Park area.  This is such a great city.
We walked to Navy Pier for lunch.  Lukey liked the Billy Goat Tavern that we went to and liked yelling "Cheezborger Cheezborger Cheezborger!" just like the cooks did. I would have liked to get some nice pictures of the kids but they weren't in the mood and I didn't feel like trying very hard because we were just having fun.

Fathers Day

We went to the Arb for Fathers Day then out to lunch at Grizzly Peak.  The kids were okay about walking but were pretty tired after a late night of fireworks the night before.

Carrie was too pregnant to come into town so we held a spot open for where she would have been in the picture.  There is a similar picture when Ben graduated high school and she was in Germany.

Anna and Lukey liked looking at the butterflies along the path.
